Newmont scholarships - North America scholarship program 2019

Welcome to the newmont scholarship page where you will told everything you need to know about new month scholarships.

Here, we will not only tell you about the scholarship, but will also show you some application steps that will guide you.

The Newmont scholarship program is a North America scholarship program that provides financial incentive and assistance for post-high school education and/or training to children of Newmont employees.

The scholarship program is available to dependents of active full-time regular employees of Newmont North America, Corporate, Canada, Miami, US-based expatriates and US legacy sites.

This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals.

Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

Newmont scholarships eligibility

Applicants of the Newmont North America Scholarship Program award must be:
  • Dependent child, as defined by the Newmont benefits plan, of full-time Newmont employee*
  • Under 26 years of age (at beginning of semester)
  • A high school senior, graduate or current college student
  • Enrolled or enrolling in full-time study at an eligible postsecondary institution**
  • Maintain a semester Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale***
Scholarship recipients are not eligible to participate in Newmont’s Tuition Reimbursement Program, legacy scholarship program, or the MTC Program.

A student who transfers to another school must inform the Scholarship Program administrator of this change before the beginning of the term.

Applicants are responsible for staying current with any modifications to the Program. All Program Information is available through Newmont Human Resources.

*Employee is defined as a full-time, regular employee at the time of application. Fixed-term, contract and part-time employees are not eligible.

**Eligible postsecondary institution is defined as a licensed and accredited undergraduate two-year or four-year college or university. Licensed and accredited technical school or certification program in the United States or Canada are also eligible.

***A student whose GPA falls below 2.5, will be placed on “probation” and given one semester to bring the GPA up to 2.5. If the student is unsuccessful in reestablishing a 2.5 GPA after the probationary period, they will be terminated from the Program. Terminated students may reapply for the Program once they have regained a 2.5 or higher GPA. Students who fail to maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher may have award levels reduced to the copper level.

Eligibility may be lost if:
  • GPA falls below 2.5 for two consecutive semesters
  • Student’s full-time status changes to part-time
  • Student withdraws or is dismissed for a semester.
  • Student no longer qualifies as a dependent of a Newmont employee
  • Employee terminates employment with Newmont, for reasons other than retirement or severance*
*Eligible dependents of employees who retire or are severed from employment, the current awarded scholarship will be honored for the duration of the academic year (i.e. through the spring semester) as long as all other student eligibility conditions continue to be met.

Newmont scholarship award

Awards range from $500-$6,000. Awards are organized into three tiers:
  • Copper: The lowest awarded amount: All first and second year college students and all upperclassmen studying a nonindustrial related field of study with acceptance/renewal to an accredited program or school (e.g., cosmetology, education, nursing, etc.)
  • Silver: the intermediate awarded amount: Third, fourth, and fifth year students studying a non-mining specific related field of study with acceptance/renewal to an accredited program or school (business related: HR, accounting, IT, etc.)
  • Gold: the highest awarded amount: Third, fourth, and fifth year students studying a mining specific related field of study with acceptance/renewal to an accredited program or school (mining or metallurgical engineering, geology, etc.)
Award amounts are flexible to meet the current business needs. The committee will set the award amounts yearly based upon the approved budget for the year.

Students will be eligible for scholarships for up to five years or until a bachelor’s degree is obtained, whichever comes first, on the basis of maintaining all eligibility requirements and reapplying within the Program specified time frame. Students pursuing graduate degrees are not eligible for scholarships.


Applicants will be notified in May. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Newmont North America.

Awards will be paid in two installments in August and January. Awards are made payable to the institution for the student.

In the U.S., the Newmont North America Scholarship is considered by the IRS to be a taxable employee benefit.

Employees will have taxes withheld twice per year to account for this tax liability.

In Canada, the Newmont North America Scholarship is taxable to the student.

Selection of recipients:

Applications and applicants will be evaluated by a panel comprised of representatives from Newmont North America. This review will be to determine that eligibility requirements are met, and to establish the level of award.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Financial need is not considered.

A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

You must provide all transcripts for schools you have attended.

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically. Incomplete applications will not be considered for a scholarship.

  • Energy Supplement

Approved scholarship courses

Your course must be:
  • a higher education course
  • at a higher education provider, and
  • on the National Register of Higher Education Providers

The course can be:
  • one that leads to a degree or diploma, or
  • a preparatory course before you start a degree or diploma
It can’t be a vocational education or training course.

It must be on the National Register of Higher Education Providers listed on the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency website.

How much you’ll get

If your family home is in a regional or remote area You'll get:
  • $4,553 in the first year you need to live away from home to study
  • $2,278 per year in the second and third years
  • $1,138 per year after that

Eleanor Dunn Scholarship for Engineering Students in Australia 2019

The University of Technology Sydney(UTS) is proud to offer the Eleanor Dunn Engineering Scholarship in Australia.

This scholarship is open to Australian or New Zealander students or Australian permanent residents.
The purpose of this scholarship is to support candidates who have personal skills and commitment to engineering education and who come from a financially disadvantaged environment or who have other educational barriers.

Level/Field of Study

The Eleanor Dunn Scholarship 2019 is available for the study of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and the Diploma in Professional Engineering.

Host Nationality

The Eleanor Dunn Scholarship in Engineering is hosted by the University of Technology Sydney, Australia, one of the youngest universities in the world.

UTS has 45,930 students, including 33,070 graduates and 12,860 doctoral students from 9 faculties and schools.

Eligible Nationality

Eleanor Dunn Scholarship 2019 is open to Australian or New Zealand citizen or holder of a permanent or permanent Australian visa.

Scholarship Worth

  • The Eleanor Dunn Engineering Scholarship award successful applicants with $25,000 paid over five years.
  • Also, each recipient receives two payments per year via an electronically transferred bank account.
  • In a situation where a part-time study has been approved, each payment will be made to the recipients in $2,500.
  • Also, payments are usually made within four weeks of the dates of the fall and spring sessions.


To be qualified, interested applicants of the Eleanor Dunn Scholarship in Engineering must adhere to the following:
  • Applicants must be starting their first year of undergraduate Bachelor of Engineering (Hons), a Diploma in Professional Engineering Practice.
  • Studying or intending to study Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering or Information Communication Technology (ICT) or Software or Data Engineering.
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or a permanent humanitarian visa.
  • Also, applicants must be either a current or a non-current school leaver.
  • For the duration of the Scholarship: applicants should have full-time enrollment in the chosen Bachelor of Engineering(Honours), Diploma in a Professional Engineering Practice course.
  • All applicants must apply using the UTS online application form.
  • Applicants must be available to attend an interview in person.
If you wish to prove the eligibility criteria, you must apply to the University Admission Center (UAC) for an Equity Scholarship or for the Educational Access Scheme.
Notwithstanding, preference will be given to applicants who meet one or more of the following criteria:
  • Those from a low socioeconomic background;
  • Have demonstrated financial disadvantages;
  • Facing educational barriers and/or personal hardship (including, but not limited to caregivers, single parents, refugees).
